Enigin PLC
On The ESA
Well, here I am a self-confessed IT-phobe writing his second blog. My last post on the subject of “old dogs and new tricks” and Enigin PLC needs updating as this old dog is himself learning a few new tricks.
Previously I ruminated on how a company like Enigin can best position itself in the energy saving industry, when the industry is perceived as relatively new but the company itself has many years of experience to offer those looking to take advantage of energy saving technologies. It isn’t only Enigin who finds itself in this situation, there are several other organisations that Enigin works with that have immense expertise and superb, leading edge solutions to help industry and commerce save electricity consumption.
I am not overly familiar with the “blogoshere” and have rarely felt the need to participate in the wonderful world of “forums”, but I do understand that those more savvy than me use these new-fangled “platforms” to share news and views and disseminate information at the click of a mouse.
Which brings me to how this old dog is has moved on. Enigin and its technology partners have recognised the need for a global industry association for those who work in the energy saving industry or who have a specific interest in it. A place where they can keep up to date, swap experiences, read articles and participate in dedicated forums. This is the Energy Saving Association (the ESA), a newly launched organisation for those who work in the industry and for those for whom energy saving is a major interest.
When you consider the accumulated expertise and experience that the contributors to the website have, the articles, white papers and forum chat are of the highest quality and the ESA is already an essential resource. I am lucky to have been asked to bring my marketing expertise and my experience at Enigin to the ESA, we have been up and running for just a few short weeks and already the membership is growing fast.
We are working hard to keep the site topical, fresh and informative and react to the suggestions that the members make. The ESA is already a presence in the market, and even the “old dog” loves to get on the forums. New tricks? A whole new world.

I thought I ought to have at least something here about Engin PLC, so here it is.
Enigin - Teaching Old Dogs new tricks - or is it vise versa?
So where do Enigin stand on the question of age and experience? Is this a company that boasts a considerable pedigree (just look at the timeline in the literature) or a relatively new, innovative operation? Does the experience in the energy-saving industry stack up? How can it? I’ve read that the business is barely two years old.
Having a clever, innovative offering, and getting others excited by it is always a difficult path to start out on. Gravitas, experience, market leadership, past achievements – all excellent attributes, even pre-requisites for a business with a mission – and all surely words associated with a company that has been trading for years? Young, exciting, energetic, innovative, dynamic – perhaps not the image for an organisation whose message is based upon years of experience and expertise?
Is Enigin and old dog learning new tricks, or a new dog with a few old tricks up its sleeve?
As I have the nickname of “Grandad” around the Enigin office I may be better qualified to answer that question than most. Firstly, no tricks, no smoke and mirrors. As the oldest member of staff, and one who is often chided for relating stories from the dim and distant past, I have seen a few things in my time. And what have I seen since deciding that the energy-saving industry was for me and that Enigin is the place to be? Knowledge, expertise and solidity combined with drive, innovation and passion. The depth of industry knowledge does indeed span three decades, the staff and Directors epitomise all that is good about a young and exciting company.
And the old and new dogs are not just inside these offices. My days are spent helping and training partners and distributors around the world, and what do I find? A great mixture of old and new dogs. Experienced business people, with years of experience in a variety of industries all excited by the Enigin opportunity, eager to learn but able to lean on their previous successes as well. And people sometimes new to the world of business, but with entrepreneurial flair, enthusiasm and a commitment to succeed in an exciting market.

Update 30/11/09
I know that I haven’t updated this particular page for quite awhile, and I felt that it was time for a short post on how Enigin is doing in the energy savings industry today. There has recently been quite a lot of buzz about Enigin in the press due to the fact that carbon conservation is a massive topic right now, not just in the realm of business but in the world at large. I just wanted to point out a particular article that I have just found on the news feeds from Earthtimes. It was called Cutting Carbon Cutting Costs, and it not only points out the financial bonuses that partaking in a scheme like this presents, but also the environmental issues that it addresses. Having worked with this guys for a bit now, I have realized that they really do mean it, and I really recommend reading this article is you have time.

Update on Enigin 07/12/09
So I know that I keep on raving about this company called Enigin, but the more I look into them, the more amazing they look. I was actually just looking at something that they offer called a Nucleus, and as you could probably guess from the name it is the system that operates from the centre of your business activities.
Not only is it the main control centre for Eniscope’s set-up and operating system, but it also lets you track sales easily and therefore reward the employees who are performing the best. Nucleus also offers the advantage of an easy solution to track all communications with your customers, providing simple search conditions and group emails. I fail to think of a business that this system wouldn’t directly benefit!

Enigin Update 14/12/09
I can’t help being a little bit curious if after the Copenhagen conference we are going to see a spike in the business that Enigin offers. I would imagine that this would be a very lucrative business opportunity for them, especially if countries are going to follow in the footsteps of Russia and introduced legislation that large corporations MUST have in-house tracking installed on their systems. I am really excited about this story, I have also read an amazing story about farmers in the Himalayas having access to technology which lets them view up to date crop stocks, if that is possible then it is getting closer to a world where energy tracking is not only possible but widespread. Let’s just hope that day is sooner rather than later.
